History Hamilton-Skotch was founded as the Hamilton Metal Products Company in 1919 in Hamilton, Ohio. It was formed by Louis Piker, J. Hamilton Sheet Metal produced mailboxes and other sheet metal-based goods, while Schlichter Manufacturing was primary known for their Climax brand food graters. After the merger, use of the Climax brand name expanded to their sheet metal products, like tackle boxes and filing boxes. Skotch Koolers Their most famous product was the Skotch Kooler. The design originated from a minnow bucket, a bucket used by fishermen to store living fish they had caught. The company was in debt, needed to expand its product line, and a minnow bucket seemed like a sensible choice, as they were already an established maker of tackle boxes. The product failed to sell well, due to existing competition, so the bucket was used as a basis for a cooler instead.
